Michael Wu, PhD, principle scientist of analytics at Lithium Technologies, has compiled a slide deck on the Science of Gamification. The presentation is filled with interesting research into social CRM, enterprise software, and gamification. Michael addresses research from B.J. Fogg, operant conditioning, and the “moral hazard of gameplay”, among other topics.
Near the end (slide 31), Michael gives some examples of poorly designed games: Gap’s Facebook campaign for checking-in to get a free pair of jeans and a “golf-game” that assigns sales leads. A good example: the speed camera lottery. Mark Wilson breaks down the deck on his blog, and for a more complete look into Dr. Wu’s research into gamification, be sure to check out his blog series on gamification at Lithosphere.
Wow! Awesome, thank you. Have shared with my developer, who is a newbie like me ~:-) We are hoping our backgrounds in psych and his gamer experience, help us to catch up!

Hello there,
Thank you for posting my deck on the science of gamification. It is too bad that slideshare does not render animation. So some of the contents in the slides just didn’t show up at all. I hope they fix that soon.
Also, thank you for linking to my blog. However, I do research and write about many different topics. The correct link to the gamification mini-series this one.

Thank you for your interest. I look forward to more collaboration in the future.
Thanks Michael! I always enjoy reading your material, and I will update the link.
