Virgin America Partners Up with MOGL’s Gamified Loyalty Platform

Loyalty is changing and MOGL’s gamified rewards platform is really shining through. MOGL is a gamified loyalty platform that rewards users for dining out at restaurants by giving 10% cash back on select restaurants and donating a meal to Feed America for every $20 spent. Their new partnership with Virgin America will allow MOGL to power Virgin’s new Elevate frequent fliers dining program.

Members of Virgin Elevate can now have their 10% cash back on MOGL converted into Elevate points to be redeemed for for miles, upgrades, food, and other Virgin services. As a bonus promotion, MOGL and Virgin will be doubling earned elevate points for each dollar spent on the MOGL platform.

Currently, MOGL has partnerships with over 2,000 restaurants in California and have reported MOGL users have earned about $2 million in rewards since it started in 2011. When asked about the new partnership, MOGL founder John Carder stated:

“Virgin is a great brand and a great way to kick off our partnerships, but we’ll have many more of these partnerships with brands in the future…this is just the beginning.”

This new partnership marks the beginning of a significant change in how loyalty will work, especially with new reports about the declining state of traditional loyalty and even Delta’s failing SkyMiles program.

MOGL and Virgin are doing everything right to approach loyalty in a way that is sustainable and exciting for the future. The social competition mechanics, altruistic benefits, small cash prizes, a single program and the ability to choose how you want your rewards is how a loyalty program needs to be now and it unsurprisingly, aligns very much with effective gamification design.

    • That is certainly true, Roman! MOGL does employ some of these gamification elements but its by no means a full engagement platforms. I think people see platform’s value in its unique ease of rewarding them for eating out, possibly winning more money, and giving to charity in the proccess
