Demand for Gamification Skills Are Up 293% From 2011

According to WANTED Analytics, hiring demand for gamification skills are up 293% from 2011. While the trend for hiring demand is on an upward path, there has been a slight 1% decrease in demand since July 2012.

WANTED Analytics also analyzed job postings followed by Wire Telecommunications Carriers and All Other Telecommunications and concluded the following 5 jobs are the most in-demand for gamification skills:

  1. Computer Software Engineers, Applications
  2. Web Developers
  3. Marketing Managers
  4. Marketing Research Analysts
  5. Training and Development Managers

Skills commonly required for these postions also include:

  • JavaScript (JS)
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
  • Graphical User Interface Design (UI)
  • User Experience Design (UX)

Engineers are at the top because they can create gamification technology and meet the skills requirements for these positions. The marketing positions fall right under because they promote and use the technologies created by the engineers. Training and Development managers bottom out the list, likely due to the emergence of gamification in HR and training.

While demand for gamification jobs largely point to engineers and marketing specialists, remember that gamification is an engagement science and that a background in behavioral psychology can still lead to a position in one of the biggest gamification platforms on the market. Gamification jobs are also evolving into engagement positions of their own.

Badgeville’s NYC Engage event in October held a number of speakers holding these engagement positions, namely Matthew Moller, Director of Digital Engagement at Samsung Electronics America and Matthew Brender, Sr. Social Engagement Manager at EMC.

Don’t be too surprised if these engagement mangers evolve to Chief Engagement Officers as masters of gamification in the future.
