Dopamine Inc. Designs and Builds Revolutionary Live Infographics Platform

The February 2012 Social Media Week conference was recently held in 12 cities worldwide, bringing together 36,000 attendees in over 1,000 individual events. Social Media Week organizers Crowdcentric estimate that the event reached hundreds of thousands of people in more than 180 countries, in a massive global conversation about emerging trends in social and mobile media.

Dopamine Inc. stepped in to provide a fun, innovative and beautiful visualization platform to make sense of those big numbers and the vast universe of social media interactions surrounding the conference.

The Infographics provided engaging feedback and analysis on the enormous social media buzz surrounding the conference, such as a mind-bending 275,000 tweets, over 800 unique Twitter hashtags and keywords, checkin trends for over 400 Foursquare venues, and even five separate live Twitter-powered surveys.

Social Media Week’s ubiquitous display screens gave the multitude of attendees a unique and playful view into their own inter-connectedness.

Social Media Week - RealTime InfographicsThe RealTime Infographics acted as a virtual mirror of social data, ranging from individual curated live tweets to sophisticated aggregate metrics about the global conversation. In one view, we ranked Twitter traffic by city, and then were able to pinpoint the highest trending words within each city. As an attendee you always knew the hottest topics of conversation within your city, up to the minute.

The design was bold enough to be used on large display screens, interactive enough for attendee laptops and responsive enough for mobile phones. Technology Partner Benard sliced the massive data stream in real time, honing into the most relevant info and providing it as raw data for the Infographics.

Creating a successful gamified experience means having access to deep metrics about the players and how they’re playing the game. Games must be continuously improved, and analytics provide the data needed to do that. Dopamine always includes Analytics and Refinement as two core components of any gamification project, and so we’re very pleased to have created such a robust, visually stunning, useful, and user-friendly platform.

To get really meta, we even ran metrics on our metrics! For example, we know that the RealTime Infographics had 43,500 unique visitors and 677,000 page views during the one-week conference. Based on these numbers and user feedback, we know the idea was a huge hit, but still has a great potential for expansion in the future.

After the conference concluded, Dopamine designed this Official #SMW12 Recap Infographic, bringing together all the relevant social media metrics in one place. It shows a vast increase in many metrics from the previous conference, and highlights several areas of massive, unprecedented collaboration through social media.

Be sure to look for examples of this fun, engaging technology at events in your near future. And if you’re an Infographics designer or data guru, please give us a shout @dopamineagency.
