How Simulation Training Amplifies Learning with the Process of Praxis

Gamification practioners should not only study how to create a great game, but also how gamers acquire skills from using complex games outside play. A great example of this comes from the game of chess. In order to become a Grandmaster at chess you must read entire libraries on the theory of the game, play it, and intensely reflect on your performance and those of others. This loop of theory, play and reflection is called Praxis.

Embracing Paradoxes and Narratives in Education

How Gaming Keeps Us Learning for Longer “In the realm of strategy, only contradiction and paradox work. Case Study: Delta’s Nonstop NYC Game That Got 190K Interactions in 6 Weeks

Few other industries have seen more challenges – and opportunities than the airline industry. The list is long: lines at the airport, higher fuel prices, razor thin margins, the recently-approved merger of American Airlines with UsAir, AMR wrestling with bankruptcy, new online Travel Agencies (OTA’s) popping up almost daily and regulatory changes, to name a few.

Delta Airlines is one of a few that has turned all of these into advantages. The company decided to separate themselves from the rest by focusing their efforts on becoming known as New York City’s hometown airline. They spent over $1 billion redesigning their terminal and they ramped up their flight offerings to and from the city. After all was said and done, the company needed a flashy, fun way to let everyone know they had arrived, and this is where BoomBox came in.

Will Wright on Gamifying the World: From SimCity to the Future

One of the most phenomenal experiences of GSummit SF 2013 happened with Will Wright’s keynote talk. As the creator of SimCity and countless other games and simulations, Wright’s talk goes deeply into games’ and their effect on us as humans in society and what that means for gamification in the grand scheme of things.

He touches on the lessons can we take from games — and decades of experience designing for fun — to create engagement for large audiences with complex models and issues? How can we make simple everyday interactions more compelling and use them as teachable moments to energize society? Can everything really be fun — and what are the secrets for balancing detail and simplicity? Check out Will Wright’s full talk as he re-imagines how the world becomes a more fun and engaging place, sharing his vision for the future and powerful design insight.

The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi approaching fast and organizers are turning to gamified solutions to bring exercise into the daily lives of busy Moscovians.

LP Recharge Review: Linkin Park’s Social Good Game

Linkin Park is clearly not afraid of new marketing strategies as evidenced by their new LP RECHARGE game, which is a free-to-play action game designed to raise attention to environmental issues and is set to the tune of Linkin Park’s new remix album, aptly named, Recharge.

Given that Recharge isn’t exactly a new album and is rather a compilation of remixes of songs (like Reanimation) off their last album Living Things, it looks like Linkin Park’s game was created to drive a little more interest in the album and their cause.

Developed in partnership with Kuuluu Interactive Entertainment, LP RECHARGE takes place in a not too distant future in which humans have consumed nearly all natural resources on the planet and the last remaining resources are being seized by killer robots.
