Cancer Research UK Hosts Hackathon to Build a Smartphone Research Game

This past weekend, top developers at Facebook, Google and Amazon Web Services joined research academics and public attendees for a Cancer Research UK hackathon to utilize crowdsourced genetic data and turn it into a smartphone game, tentatively called GeneRun.

The hackathon’s goal is to produce a game that makes use of crowdsourced “citizen scientists” (a la Fold.it) to quickly interpret and analyze data that will facilitate research for cancer drug interventions.

Maritz and Badgeville announce new partnership but what about Bunchball?

Earlier this week, Maritz and Badgeville announced a new partnership that will allow each company’s gamification solutions to work in tandem. Clients of Maritz will now be able to track and influence user behavior across websites, mobile applications, and enterprise applications. Additionally, Badgeville’s clients can now access Maritz Solutions’ rewards and fulfillment services to offer a range of rewards for the Badgeville gamification systems.

The new partnership is further evidence of the growing need for employee engagement solutions in enterprise but what’s particularly interesting to note is that Maritz made this same exact announcement in 2010 but with Bunchball instead.

Chok! Coca-Cola’s Most Successful Hong Kong Marketing Campaign in 35 Years

Coca-Cola has really been innovating with their marketing campaigns worldwide. We saw one Coke vending machine challenge mall visitors to dance for free Coke in South Korea. And another Coke machine challenged commuters to be James Bond in Europe to promote the release of Skyfall. Apparently, Coke isn’t done with using gamification for marketing as the Harvard Business Review blog shed some light on their Chok campaign — an initiative Coca-Cola claims to be the best Hong Kong marketing campaign they’ve accomplished in 35 years.
